July 2009 News continued...

Graduates, Students, Staff have you got a business?

We are keen to promote who you are and what you do - other than study or teach. You may have seen the business card and pamphlet holders located in the Level 2 tea roomof the AGSE. We also place info about discount offers when available and we encourage you to add business cards or your employer’s business cards. Share information and communicate to other members.

Members studying in the BA building:  We would like to hear from you specifically on the best way to ensure we make contact and also creating a presence for the AGSE Alumni Association in your primary study area.

Overseas Members: Please feel free to forward your promotional information to us for display in some manner. Whilst business cards would be ideal and simple for us to manage, if you prefer to forward a promotional brochure pdf or similar, we can consider how to best present this for you in a cost effective manner. Please email agsealumniassociation@gmail.com if you have any queries or suggestions.

The member’s business promotion area, cards etc. is an evolving concept… therefore… Business cards not directly related to our member’s own businesses must be approved by the committee for inclusion, or they will be removed from display pending approval.

It is important – we are sure you will agree – that members can find and talk with each other and open up opportunities through their connection to the AGSE and sharing their own networks & experience. We feel many of you do not know each other. Specifically, our overseas members and "early-years" members are often known from profiles on Linked In ... and this is not good enough!

In order to best help facilitate your ability to talk to each other, we are looking at developing a Wiki.  When you use that forum, you will be able to not only lodge a profile, but comments and select specific "friends" from our database of members. This would be a closed site, thus unlike Linked In, Facebook, You Noodle and other social/business entities. It would be an area members can “bare their soul”, take control of their links, and ask questions without restraint. There would be no worries about damaging your “brand” or employment potential.

I would be delighted to talk with anyone who has either helped set up a Wiki, and/or may be willing to assist with how to go about this most effectively. Please email Karen if you have any advice to provide, either through our AGSE email account or via my own “eternal” email: 5419085@swin.edu.au .
